A tonic for the autumn - acupuncture

Autumn is a beautiful season with nature’s changing colours and golden sunlight, but it’s also that time of the year when many of us can start to feel run down.

The holiday season is long over and gradually the stresses of work and life in a busy metropolis are starting to build up. Symptoms such as broken sleep, tension headaches, mood swings and general tiredness are common when you don’t feel 100%. If this sounds like you, maybe it's time to give yourself a 'pick me up'. Acupuncture is one such relaxing treatment, that if you haven't tried already, then do consider it when you need a boost.

Traditional acupuncture is a modality of Chinese medicine, a system of healing that has been practised in China and other Far Eastern countries for over two thousand years. It is a holistic approach to the management and prevention of illness as well as the maintenance of good health. Fine needles are carefully placed to relax the muscles, relieve tension and to help to normalise the body function.

Rather than isolating treatment of specific symptoms, it focuses on the overall wellbeing of the person and aims to stimulate the body’s own healing response. This is why many people often find that aside from the main complaint for which they initially came for acupuncture, throughout a treatment course other aspects of their health seem to be improving too.

How will you know if Acupuncture is right for you?

Different diagnostic methods are used to get a complete picture of your health and lifestyle.  A full medical history will be taken as well as reading your pulses, and looking at your tongue. Based on this information, a diagnosis will be made and your personal treatment plan put together. Acupuncture points are selected according to your symptoms as well as any underlying conditions.

The treatment itself is very relaxing and comfortable. It's time out for you - just let your mind quieten, unwind and know that you are being taken care of.
