Anthony Metcalfe is the founder of the clinic and graduated in 1976. He has served as President of the European Chiropractic Profession and is now President of the World Federation of Chiropractic
Tom Greenway graduated as a Chiropractor in 1990. Since then, he has specialised in treating sports injuries and is an ex-rugby player himself. His approach is particularly useful if you have had recurring sports injuries or you have not managed to reach your full potential because of injury. He is currently working with Chelsea Football Club and has been to the 1996 and 2000 Olympic Games.
Nicholas Loftus graduated from the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic in 1994 (having previously worked in the wine trade for 5 years!) and joined the clinic in 1995. Since that time he has obtained a postgraduate diploma in Extremity Chiropractic (1997) and more recently this year completed a postgraduate study in Dry Needling (Western Acupuncture), both of which have been of particular use in his practice. He is very keen to introduce all his patients to self-help spinal exercises regardless of age or occuptaion in order to complement his treatment.
Emma Morris graduated from the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic in 1995 and joined the clinic at that time. She also has a degree in Human Biology and a postgraduate qualification in paediatrics. She treats babies with colic, sleep problems, breast feeding problems and babies who are generally hard to settle. She treats ante-natal problems such as pubic symphysis dysfunction. She uses cranial work with both adults and children to help with recurrent ear infections and various children's developmental disorders including dyspraxia, dyslexia, ADD, ADHD and OCD.
James Gaiger sees chiropractic as being an integral part of healthcare. He has completed post-graduate study in Dry Needling (Western Acupuncture) which he uses as a complement to chiropractic. He is also experienced at working within industry, providing effective treatment for company employees suffering from work-place related injuries.
Mark Davies began his career in Rugby Union and represented Wales at schoolboy and youth level. He consequently studied to become a fitness instructor and sports therapist and is therefore very experienced in exercise prescription and strength training. After working in these fields, he undertook a Chiropractic degree at the Weslh Institute of Chiropractic and continued his rugby career within the Welsh premiership. He was finally persuaded to join the Chiropractic team here in Teddington. His expertise is particularly within sports injuries, and emphasises a strength and conditioning approach to back pain.

All the above are statutorily registered with the General Chiropractic Council and are members of the British Chiropractic Association, the largest professional association in England for chiropractors. Chiropractic is covered by all the major insurance companies.

What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a profession which specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of conditions, which are due to mechanical dysfunction of the joints, particularly the spine, and their effects on the nervous system.

Chiropractors use their hands to adjust the joints of your spine and limbs where signs of restricted movement are found. This stimulates the proprioceptors and can affect the way your nervous system works. This is referred to as manipulation or adjustment and aims to correct poor, inadequate or incorrect function of the spine or peripheral joints.

What conditions can a Chiropractor treat?

There are many conditions which can be helped by Chiropractic including:

Back pain, sciatica and disc problems
Headache and migraine
Neck pain and whiplash
Chest or abdominal pain
Shoulder, arm, wrist and hand pain
Leg, knee, ankle and foot pain
Sports injuries

Early treatment of a problem will usually result in a quicker resolution.

What happens at the first appointment?

Your chiropractor will take a detailed history of your problem as well as looking at your health generally. This is followed by a detailed examination, which includes specific neurological and orthopaedic tests.

X–rays
X–ray facilities are present on site should they be necessary in helping to diagnose your condition. If X–rays have been taken recently it is often possible to obtain them from local hospitals.

X–rays are reviewed and reported on by Dr Caroline Miller, Consultant Radiologist.

At your next appointment

The examination of findings and the results of any investigations are explained to you as well as the proposed treatment plan. Advice will be given for "home help" as well as rehabilitation exercises to prevent recurrences.

Although many patients are referred by their medical practitioner this is not necessary. However, a few insurance companies require your GP to sign your claim form.
